So the future of technology is Robotics & A.I. Great! A whole lot of countries have started to invest in it and are doing their maximum best to push its citizens into the trend for the benefit of the economy. There is one problem and the problem is that not all countries can afford it and even if they can, they might not have the right developers for the job.
To write algorithms that control highly intelligent machines is not easy. It requires a high input of time, energy, and resources to get them in place.
So far, Africans have not been able to launch a platform like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and others. These companies have built highly scalable systems that are able to handle a higher amount of traffic. They have enough data centers, the right programmers, and what have you. Ghana has not even reached this level yet and we are here jumping straightforward into Robotics and A.I.
If you consider top giants like Google, Facebook, Amazon, and others, you will find out that that started as pure websites, made money online, and finally invested in these top areas.
Also, most of the algorithms used in modern A.I are already written, standardized, and controlled by A.I gurus from Canada, US, and other top countries. This means that there is a higher probability that most of the developers who write algorithms to control robots and systems in Ghana and other African countries are not innovative. The US, on the other hand, has total control over most of their systems since they have the human resource to write and maintain these algorithms.
Part of the reasons why China has blocked Google and Facebook is that they seek to help their home-made technologies dominate among their own citizens. The government has killed competition for the likes of AliExpress to outclass Amazon in China and neighboring Asian countries.
For Ghana and other African countries to build powerful Robots and Algorithms, we have to launch applications that can somehow match the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp, and others like how China has done it.
Boston Dynamics Robotics creates intelligent machines that can mimic human movements in an unbelievable fashion. To get to the top level, Ghana will have to start building powerful online systems that improve the way of life of its people like what the US and other top countries have done. We lack enough data and developers with the right expertise to build such systems at the moment.
